‘I Always Tell Myself That I Am the Best’ — Mbappe on the Ambition to Become the Sport’s Top Player

Kylian Mbappe has opened up about his goal to soon become football’s top player in the world.

Mbappe has been in top form as of late thanks to his standout performances in all competitions. Without Neymar due to his adductor injury, Mbappe led PSG to wins against the likes of FC Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League and Lille OSC in the Coupe de France.

The French forward is not only aiming to remain as a perennial world-class player in football today, but he is striving to soon become football’s clear top player.

Mbappe spoke to RMC Sport about his mentality as a forward and why for now, he does feel confident in saying that he is the best player in the world.

“In my head, I always tell myself that I am the best,” Mbappe said. “Of course it’s important because when you’re in a rough patch, no one other than yourself is going to push you. And you have to convince yourself that you are capable of toppling mountains. People aren’t going to push you.

“It is only you and your ‘mindset.’ It’s only you. You have to convince yourself that you are capable of doing great things.

“Every time I go on a pitch I always tell myself that I’m the best and yet I have played on grounds where there was Messi and Cristiano. They are better players than me, they have done a billion more things than me. But in my head, I always tell myself that I’m the best because that way you don’t give yourself limits and you try to give your best.

Mbappe will have multiple opportunities over the remainder of the ongoing season to continue to showcase his world-class prowess, including in the upcoming fixtures against Bayern Munich and Lille.
