Former Ligue 1 Midfielder Valbuena Explains Why PSG Is the Favorites in the Champions League Tie Against Manchester City

Paris Saint-Germain will clash with Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League semifinals later this month. Manchester City came into this season’s competition as one of the favorites to win it all, so PSG sure will have plenty on its plate to deal with for this upcoming tie.

Many former players have already shared their predictions about just which team will advance to the Champions League final. For instance, former Olympique de Marseille midfielder Mathieu Valbuena believes that PSG is the early favorite in this tie.

Valbuena explained his reasoning for this prediction during his talk with RMC Sport.

“I think Paris is the favorite,” Valbuena said. “City has a big offensive force, but as soon as they are deprived of the ball, they are not the same team.”

Valbuena also singled out one key player to watch for Manchester City.

“[Kevin] De Bruyne, who likes to get between the lines,” Valbuena said.

Ahead of the tie, PSG will have multiple massive fixtures on its schedule. The Ligue 1 powerhouse is still aiming to finish the season as a treble-winner for the first time in its history. PSG currently sits in second place in the Ligue 1 standings and is in the quarterfinals of the Coupe de France tournament.
