Before their match against Olympique Lyonnais, Paris Saint-Germain learned that Ligue 1 leading side Lille OSC had lost its fixture. A capital club win over Lyon would catapult Mauricio Pochettino’s side to first place.
Knowing what was at stake, Les Parisiens showed no mercy in their first 55 minutes of action. The French giants were up 4-0 on Lyon with goals from Kylian Mbappé, Danilo Pereira, and Ángel Di María.
PSG would come away with a 4-2 win and leave Lyon with sole possession of first place in Ligue 1. After the match, Mbappé spoke to Canal Plus, where Canal Supporters relayed his comments on the win.
“It was good, it was good. We had a good match, we won, and we regain first place, and we will make sure not to let it anymore. Did Lille’s defeat have an impact? A little, a little, but we came here to win; we were prepared to win,” Mbappé said.
“We checked this date. We knew that it was a crucial moment in Ligue 1 even more with the defeat of Lille. But the importance of the match was very high. We knew it was a team that often puts us in difficulty in the league. It’s an exciting team; we came with our conviction of play and desire. We played with personality. It rolled as they say.”
