In a match that had arguably the two best squads in France, Paris Saint-Germain punched Olympique Lyonnais in the mouth from kick-off. The capital club scored four goals in less than 60 minutes, and although Lyon showed some fight at the end, they couldn’t recover.
Les Parisiens would come away with the 4-2 victory and leave in first place. After the match, Lyon manager Rudi Garcia discussed what went wrong for his squad during his press conference. Canal Supporters would relay the gaffer’s comments on the defeat.
“It wasn’t a game plan issue tonight. It was a lack of athletic impact. We lost duels! And when you lose duels, you are exposed,” Garcia said. “This is not possible against a team that had gone into Paris big team mode.
“We also suffered from not knowing how to get the ball out well enough, especially in their counter-pressing. We couldn’t find the depth, either. And when we did, we scored, by Maxwel Cornet. Then we went back to 4-2, with the few chances we had. We could hope to take a point, but it was complicated. We take two goals from set-pieces tonight, we need to quickly regain our defensive efficiency on set pieces.”
