‘They Know That They Are Part of a Big Club’ — Verratti Makes a Case on Why Neymar and Mbappe Should Remain at PSG

Marco Verratti laid out an argument as to why Neymar and Kylian Mbappe should stay at Paris Saint-Germain.

Both Neymar and Mbappe still have not yet signed contract extension agreements with the club. The two are slated to become free agents at the end of the 2021/2022 season, so speculation continues to circulate on whether they will elect to stay on with the club or depart over the upcoming summer transfer window.

Verratti wants the two star goal-scorers to stay on with the club. As he revealed to RMC Sport, the Italian has been working behind-the-scenes a bit on convincing them to commit to PSG.

“It’s normal, we know that with them in the team we are stronger,” Verratti said. “I always speak with them, tell you everything, but we talk a lot. When Ney had a more difficult time, with his injuries and everything, we were really very close. Same for Kylian.”

Verratti also laid out a case as to why they are better off staying at PSG, including with the argument that the French powerhouse is inching closer and closer to being recognized as one of the perennial powerhouse winning clubs.

“Yes, they are very good here, Verratti said. “They know that they are part of a big club with a big project. I also think, but here I speak in a personal capacity, that to win [Champions League] here would have a different flavor.

“We started a very big project to win this competition nine or 10 years ago. I think we are getting closer and closer to the big teams. It is played a lot on details. And by dint of being close, it will eventually happen. There are many teams that reached the final, and who won the following season.”

The rest of the PSG players surely agree with Verratti in wanting them to stay at the club.
