Report: Tokyo Olympic Hopes Are Dwindling for Kylian Mbappé; Eyes 2024 Edition to Win a Gold Medal on Home Soil

Before the coronavirus pandemic delayed the UEFA Euro 2020 and the Tokyo Olympics, Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappé had the wild idea of competing in both tournaments considering they didn’t overlap.

Furthermore, at 22-years-old, the France international met the age requirement to play for the French U-23 side and three over-age players. However, with fixtures being congested into tight windows, adding more games, despite having youth on his side.

Nonetheless, as Le Parisien reports, the dreams of playing at the Olympics are quickly fading. Regardless of potentially missing out on the games in Tokyo, Mbappé remains hopeful that he can participate in the 2024 edition, which would have more meaning considering they’ll occur in Paris, France.

Although Mbappé will be over the age limit, the capital club forward could be one of the three over-age players on the squad. It seems that missing out on these Olympics might be a blessing as Mbappé could win a gold medal on home soil in three years.
