Lionel Messi’s future at Barcelona remains the main transfer storyline for the upcoming summer window. The Argentine is set to become a free agent at the end of the season and still, he has not yet provided any indication over whether he aspires to stay Barca or prefers to move on to another club.
PSG has been linked with Messi and the rumors have been piling on ever since Neymar publicly spoke about his ambition to play alongside the Argentine once again.
At the moment, Neymar feels that Messi is leaning towards staying at Barca, according to a report from Jose Alvarez on the Spanish-based sports show El Chiringuito.
Neymar still wants to play with Messi, whether it be at PSG or a reunion at Barca. Thus, Neymar’s contract talks have been placed on hold for the moment, per the report. The report also adds that one possible scenario could be that Neymar will elect not to renew his current contract with PSG and instead rejoin Barca next year as a free transfer.
Neymar is also in a contract extension dilemma. The Brazilian has not yet come to terms on a new extension agreement with PSG, although all signs continue to point towards the forward soon agreeing to a new deal.
It will be interesting to see on how Messi’s upcoming free agency period will play out.
