Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Leonardo once again touched on the rumors regarding the club’s interest in Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
PSG is one club that is regularly in the rumor mill for the biggest stars in the sport. This has been the case as of late with Ronaldo and Messi, especially with the latter.
Dating back to reports during the last year’s summer transfer window, PSG has been linked with a free transfer move for Messi as the Argentine is set to become a free agent at the end of the season.
Over the past months, Leonardo has openly talked about the club’s interest in Messi, which garnered backlash from the likes of the new Barcelona president Joan Laporta.
In speaking to RMC Sport, Leonardo once again touched on the Messi rumors, but this time around, he carefully walked the tightrope regarding his public comments on this matter.
“Today, we are so focused, it is March, it is a decisive moment for the results of the season,” Leonardo said. “We have nothing at all in relation to the future, except the idea of extending the players that we already have. There is no contract or a project for something. We are also obliged to measure what will be the financial results of this season.”
Leonardo was also asked about any interest in Ronaldo. As he did with his Messi comments, the PSG sporting director downplayed the Ronaldo links for the moment.
“What makes us happy is that PSG is almost always in all files,” Leonardo said. “It’s good. The transfer window is very fluid, there is some movement. PSG is very desired, in general. All the great players are linked to PSG. It is something that must be valued.
“We are always in the position to speak with the great players, who would like to come. But we have no negotiations in progress regarding a new player.”
These comments from Leonardo are expected, especially as he does not want to attract criticism from Barcelona and Juventus club officials over why he is talking about their players in this context at this point in the season.
Still, PSG may continue to be linked with the two star goal-scorers ahead of the summer transfer window.
