Manchester City has now joined the race for current Portuguese prospect and Sporting CP versatile talent Nuno Mendes, according to a report from the Spanish-based outlet AS.
Manchester City’s interest in Mendes comes at the request of manager Pep Guardiola, per the report. For the moment, there has been no reported offer made by Manchester City officials to Sporting CP for Mendes.
Mendes continues to attract a lengthy list of interest clubs because of his promising potential as an attacking talent. As noted by AS late last year, Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool are also keeping a close watch on Mendes. But as with Manchester City, neither of these two powerhouse clubs have put forth an offer on the table for the Portuguese talent.
Mendes is currently in the midst of his first real breakout campaign for Sporting CP. The 18-year-old prospect has recorded two goal contributions in 19 Primeira Liga appearances so far this season. The Portuguese talent also sits at a 1.4 successful dribbles per game average in league play this season.
Mendes is tied to a contract with current league-leaders Sporting CP for four more seasons following this year. More so, Mendes is said to have a release clause of €25 million in his contract.
