Julian Draxler detailed what has been key for him in his current run under new Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino.
Draxler has been a quiet but reliable contributor for PSG ever since Pochettino was named as the manager of the club. The German midfielder is now earning more playing time minutes and is even chipping in for key goal contributions. For one, he has recorded five goal contributions over his last nine matches in all competitions.
As he spoke further to PSG TV about, Draxler credits his versatility as a midfielder for his strong goal contributing play as of late.
“But it all depends on the position I play in,” Draxler said. “If I continue playing higher up the pitch, I’ll get more and more chances. I’m a versatile player and can play in multiple postions depending on what the team needs.
“I hope I can continue shooting as much on goal. There is so much quality in the forward areas at Paris Saint-Germain but I can still play games and show quality. I’m happy with the role I play in this team.”
Unlike in previous seasons, PSG does not have a sizeable lead in the Ligue 1 standings. PSG stands at first place in the league table but teams such as Lille OSC and Olympique Lyonnais have made this season’s title chase one of the more intriguing ones in years. Draxler sees that this proves that Ligue 1 is much deserving of more respect and recognition.
“Yes sometimes in France I feel like people think it’s easy to win the league or a cup because we’re Paris Saint-Germain,” Draxler said. “The whole team work hard all year and make it possible. This year is harder, it’s very tight.
“We’re going to do all we can to win the league and the other competitions.”
PSG still has key league fixtures left on its schedule, which includes matches against Lille and Lens.
