Paris Saint-Germain is heading to the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals for the second consecutive season. The capital club eliminated FC Barcelona in the Round of 16 on a 5-2 aggregate score.
For club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, advancing in the Champions League is always an accomplishment. Furthermore, moving on past Barça makes the result extra sweet considering the great pain PSG supporters felt in 2017 due to the 6-1 fixture.
After the match, Al-Khelaifi spoke to RMC Sport (via Canal Supporters), where he discussed Les Parisiens advancing past their international rival.
“For me, when you qualify for the quarterfinals of the Champions League, it’s a source of pride,” Al-Khelaifi said. “I haven’t forgotten what happened four years ago. It’s in history, and it will stay. We released the great Barça, and we are very happy.”
Having the PSG president on the microphone, the French media outlet couldn’t pass the opportunity to ask Al-Khelaifi about the contract status of their two superstars Neymar Jr. and Kylian Mbappé. Whether this is inside information from how talks are going or perhaps a gut feeling, Al-Khelaifi did that both players are Parisiens.
“Neymar and Mbappé are Parisians; they will always remain Parisians,” Al-Khelaifi said.
The French giants now have to play the waiting game as the next set of Round of 16 fixtures need to be played before determining their quarterfinals opponent.
