‘He’s Got That Versatility’ – Ex-Liverpool Midfielder Explains Why His Former Club Should Pursue Jadon Sancho Over Kylian Mbappé

Real Madrid has been the loudest and probably the frontrunner for Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappé. However, there is the possibility that the France international does decide to venture elsewhere, like the Premier League.

Liverpool FC is the other club aside from Los Blancos to show interest in acquiring the 22-year-old. However, it doesn’t seem as though The Reds want to put all their eggs into the Mbappé basket. Furthermore, the majority of their interest isn’t on the PSG forward.

In an interview with Goal, former Liverpool midfielder Jason McAteer states that Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho should be higher on The Reds transfer wishlist than Mbappé. McAteer cites tactics as the reason Sancho would be more valuable to Liverpool.

“You’ll think I’ll say if I can sign any player, I’d sign Mbappe? The biggest talking points at Liverpool are the tactics. Klopp has tried to evolve tactically. He has tried to use a 4-2-3-1, he has tried to change it up and go away from this traditional 4-3-3 – he hasn’t had the players to do that job,” McAteer said. “I know it’s a long-winded answer. But I’d sign Jadon Sancho. I’d sign him because he’s got that versatility.”

“I think he can play different positions: he can play left, or right, or down the center, if you wanted. “He’s got pace, and he’s got creativity. If there’s a low block and you need something a little bit different, he offers that. He’s also young, and he fits into the mold of this Liverpool team. That’s the player I’d go out and buy.”

These comments might help prepare Liverpool supporters that if the English club shows any interest in Mbappé, they’ll be rejected. Whenever Real Madrid is involved, the player is likely to choose the Spanish side. Nonetheless, McAteer could believe his comments as they could be biased towards a player who has ties to the Premier League.
