Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti is providing some insight on just what it is like to play with a star forward like Neymar.
Verratti has played with several star attacking talents over his current run with PSG, but none have had such a world-class prowess like Neymar. The two have been teammates at PSG for four seasons and continue to emerge as one of the top midfielder and forward partnerships in the continent.
Verratti has enjoyed playing alongside Neymar and in an interview with Canal Football Club, he spoke about just what he looks for in matches when Neymar is on the pitch.
“We know he’s the strongest player in our squad,” Verratti said. “Our role is to put him in the best possible conditions. Now he knows me, and I’m looking for him. This is why he will always make movements to receive the ball well.”
Verratti has been notably lauded for his versatility this season. He most recently took on playing time minutes as a central attacking midfielder during Mauricio Pochettino’s first matches in charge.
The Italian himself recognizes just what kind of a unique playstyle he operates under.
“They say that the way I play is one of my characteristics,” Verratti said. “It is true that I am small and that is why in small spaces I feel really comfortable.
“Sometimes I also go on the ground on purpose because I know I will recover even better. I’m never going to change that type of thing even if now I’m playing for a big club with important matches. A mistake can be really expensive for everyone and I know I would get yelled at but that’s my characteristic.”
The Italian midfielder will remain one of the focal points in the Pochettino era, especially over pivotal fixtures.
