Report: PSG Could be Without Di Maria for Champions League Clash Against Barcelona Next Week

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Angel Di Maria was an early surprise substitution during the team’s recent rivalry fixture against Olympique de Marseille. Di Maria recorded an early assist in the match but wound up being subbed off minutes later due to a right thigh injury.

This injury could very well keep him out of PSG’s UEFA Champions League round of 16 first leg duel against FC Barcelona, according to a report from RMC Sport.

The report noted that Di Maria felt pain in his right thigh during the fixture against Marseille. Thus, Di Maria and PSG’s coaching staff felt that it was best for him to leave the fixture rather than risk aggravating the injury even more.

PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino spoke after the match regarding the confidence that Di Maria did not suffer a serious injury. But regardless of the severity, PSG may indeed be without Di Maria for the heavyweight bout against Barca next week.

Di Maria had just begun to pick up form as of late with four total goal contributions in his last four matches. In the meantime, other players will have to step up in the Argentine’s absence.
