Report: PSG Aiming to Officially Sign Neymar to a Contract Extension Deal Before the Champions League Tie Against Barcelona

Earlier this week, Marcelo Bechler from the Brazilian-based outlet TNT Sports Brasil made mention that Neymar is on the verge of agreeing to a new contract extension deal with Paris Saint-Germain. The two sides are close to coming to official terms on a deal that would see the Brazilain remain at the club for another four seasons.

PSG now has a deadline in which it would like to officially announce this blockbuster extension deal.

PSG and Neymar are working to publicly announce the new agreement before the team’s opening first leg of its UEFA Champions League Round of 16 bout against FC Barcelona, according to a report from the Brazilian-based outlet UOL.

For PSG to officially agree on a new deal with Neymar ahead of the much-anticipated Barca clash would be deemed as a ‘political victory’, per the report. Barca was regularly in the rumor mill over the past two summer transfer windows in regard to possibly bringing back Neymar to the club but no such move came to fruition both times.

More so, the report adds a key detail that with the length of the four-year contract extension deal, this was Neymar’s choice. Neymar’s representatives and PSG club officials first had talks regarding a possible contract extension for the forward last August. Since then, it has been a gradual process between the two sides over this matter.

Neymar has a ‘great’ relationship with PSG, so this new upcoming agreement between the two sides is far from a surprise.

After Neymar and PSG officially announce the new deal, the Brazilian can then put this contract saga behind him while also looking ahead to helping the French powerhouse make another deep run in the Champions League knockout stage.
