Marquinhos’ rapid development as a defender over the years has not only impressed Paris Saint-Germain but also several other powerhouse clubs as well. Among those such clubs is Real Madrid, which is showing an early interest in the defender, according to a report from the Spanish-based outlet Diario Gol.
Real Madrid scouts tuned in to the recent UEFA Champions League round of 16 first leg clash between PSG and Barcelona, per the report. They watched as Marquinhos helped PSG’s backline hold Barca to zero open play goals scored in the match.
For the moment, Real Madrid is expecting to see longtime defender Sergio Ramos will leave the club over the upcoming summer transfer window. The Spanish defender still has not reached an agreement with Los Blancos for a new contract deal and thus, the general expectation is that he is playing in his last matches with the club.
As a result, Real Madrid is slated to be out in the transfer market looking for an immediate replacement. The club has already reportedly signed impending free agent David Alaba to a pre-contract deal. Still, the Spanish powerhouse is reportedly not stopping with this one move, as it aims to reinforce the team’s defensive depth.
The versatile Marquinhos currently has three more years left on his contract following this season.
Considering that the club has now heavily invested in the Brazilian talent following Thiago Silva’s departure, Real Madrid may have to go overtime to pull off this possible transfer move.
