Premier League side Arsenal has now joined the race for Paris Saint-Germain defender Juan Bernat. According to a report from the Spanish-based outlet TodoFichajes, Arsenal club officials are now in contact with the left-back’s agent over a possible free transfer move.
Bernat is currently slated to be among several PSG players that will become free agents over the upcoming summer transfer window. This will make the PSG talent eligible to go on and sign with any club on a free transfer agreement.
Since Bernat is a pending free agent, other clubs can now begin talks with the player and his representatives for a pre-contract agreement. Thus, this would allow Arsenal to come to terms with Bernat for such an agreement before the start of the summer transfer window.
Arsenal is currently not the only club showing preliminary interest in signing Bernat. Sevilla is one other club that is also keeping a close watch on Bernat’s situation with PSG.
While Bernat is still on par to become a free agent, one recent report noted that he is in talks with PSG for a multi-year contract extension deal. But until the contract is officially signed, other clubs can still join in on the race for the Spanish talent.
Bernat is currently on the sidelines due to an ACL injury but is expected to be back in the coming months.
