Herrera Details How Neymar Has Grown to Become a ‘Natural Leader’ at PSG

Ander Herrera says Paris Saint-Germain star forward Neymar has now become a “natural leader” at the club.

Neymar has been lauded by players, coaches and pundits for his sheer ability as a world-class forward. But on the other hand, many are now beginning to take note of his leadership at PSG.

The Brazilian does not wear the captain’s armband for PSG or is he even a vice team captain. But he has shown qualities of being a leader on the pitch, which his teammates can certainly stand behind this.

Herrera has watched up and close personal on how Neymar is now becoming more of a leader for the team. The Spanish midfielder detailed this growth during an interview with the Spanish-based outlet Cadena Ser.

“Since September, I have seen a very involved Neymar,” Herrera said. “I saw that he had ‘taken the flag of the project’. He feels important, appreciated. I think he’s enjoying every day. … It’s easier when you have someone like him, who makes such a difference, who is so happy.

“Neymar is a natural leader. He takes the ball, comes to get it, carries the team on his back.

Herrera’s also touched a bit on PSG’s other superstar talent in Kylian Mbappe.

The PSG midfielder sees that Mbappe could one day become the player who the club commits to building around, but this should not be a forced transition.

“Kylian is very young, he will be one of the best players of the next decade,” Herrera said. “I believe that he should not be forced to carry the project.”

For the moment, Mbappe does not have to be concerned with carrying the team all by himself as he has Neymar alongside him.
