Mauro Icardi returned from injury over the weekend, where he came on as a substitute and scored one goal while assisting on another in Paris Saint-Germain’s 3-0 win over Stade Brestois.
The 27-year-old got the start in the Trophée des Champions against Olympique de Marseille. Icardi carried that form he possessed against Brestois as he scored one goal and was named man of the match.
After the capital club’s win, Icardi spoke to Canal Plus and admitted he was delighted with the result as it marked the 10th time that Les Parisiens won the trophy.
“I am delighted to be back after several months of absence. I made my last comeback with a purpose. In a final, I was decisive tonight. It’s important to win a final. I’m happy with my goal for the team,” Icardi said.
“We made sacrifices tonight to win this game. It was vital for us. A striker needs to score goals. You have to help the team with goals.”
