There’s no question that one of the weaker points on this Paris Saint-Germain squad is at full-back, and it seems as though Mauricio Pochettino wants to strengthen that position.
According to Estadio Deportivo, the capital club is looking at Emerson, who currently plays for Real Betis. However, his rights also belong to FC Barcelona after coming over from Clube Atlético Mineiro.
When the Brazil international arrived in Europe, it was a shared signing between Barcelona and Betis. The deal has cost €12 million, which both clubs shared.
Marca reports that Barcelona can sign him for €6-million, plus an additional bonus at the end of this season, though Betis will retain a future sale percentage. If Barcelona does not wish to sign him, Betis can keep him for an already agreed fee.
Emerson has appeared in 13 and started all 13 fixtures where he’s averaged 85 minutes per game for Betis.
The 22-year-old has a transfer value between €20-million and €30-million per CIES Football Observatory. Nonetheless, with half of his rights belonging to Barcelona, the Spanish club will need to give the okay for Betis to sell him to PSG.
Over the summer, Les Parisiens did bring in Alessandro Florenzi on loan from AS Roma. Still, that move was under former manager Thomas Tuchel, who saw him as a fit in his tactical system. It remains to be seen whether Pochettino wants Florenzi long-term or would instead look elsewhere.
