Report: Pochettino Turned Down Job Offers From Monaco and Benfica During Unemployment Period

Mauricio Pochettino spent over a year without a job after his sacking with Tottenham Hotspur in November 2019.

However, it wasn’t due to the lack of suitors trying to woo the Argentine tactician over the last calendar year. RMC Sport reports that the 48-year turned down clubs like AS Monaco and SL Benfica-old as Pochettino was looking for the right situation.

Furthermore, the French media outlet said that FC Barcelona discussed hiring the former Spurs boss. Nonetheless, having played and managed for RCD Espanyol de Barcelona, it probably wasn’t going to occur as Pochettino would be loyal to his former club.

With the opportunity to manage two of the top five talents in the world at Paris Saint-Germain, it was the situation that Pochettino was sitting and waiting to turn up.

Managing players like Neymar Jr. and Kylian Mbappé, among others, is something that clubs such as Monaco and Benfica couldn’t offer. Now Pochettino will have the opportunity to manage another of his former teams as he becomes the next bench boss for PSG.
