Pochettino Remains Confident That Mbappe Will Return to Strong Form for PSG

Ahead of Paris Saint-Germain’s Ligue 1 fixture against Montpellier, Mauricio Pochettino made a surprise return to the Parc des Princes. He had just tested positive for the coronavirus last week, but according to Le Parisien, the Argentine manager will be on the sidelines for the team’s fixture today.

Before the fixture, Pochettino spoke to Telefoot La Chaine about his return. He also touched on Mbappe’s recent form, as the forward is currently on a four-match goalless streak. Overall, Pochettino is not at all concerned with Mbappe’s play as of late.

“Any player goes through ups and downs,” Pochettino said. “It happens in a normal career. Kylian is doing a great job for the team and I have no doubt that he will score goals because he is a great footballer; he is very important to us. It is important to give him confidence and that he continues to train the way he does today, and then what everyone wants will happen again.”

Mbappe will have a golden opportunity to end the goalless streak in today’s match against Montpellier. PSG last faced Montpellier earlier this season in a match where Mbappe scored a goal in what was a convincing 3-1 win for his side.

Overall, the French forward leads Ligue 1 in goals scored this season with 12. He is well on his way to yet another 20-goal campaign in his Ligue 1 career.
