Just days after Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Leonardo provided his input on Kylian Mbappe’s contract situation, manager Mauricio Pochettino is also chiming in on the matter.
Leonardo recently gave his brief thoughts on Mbappe’s contract situation, where he essentially touched upon why PSG is the best club for Mbappe’s prime years. The French forward still has not come to terms on a contract extension agreement with the club, which is fueling speculation on a possible exit.
Now, Pochettino is also giving his take on the matter. The new PSG manager spoke to Cadena Ser’s El Larguero (via RMC Sport) where he made note of his confidence that the board will make a grand attempt at convincing Mbappe to stay at the club.
“The club is working and making the effort to renew the players they consider important and it is clear that he [Mbappe] is a player with enormous potential,” Pochettino said. “Which coach would not want to train Mbappé for a long time? Kylian is very happy here in Paris. I have no doubt that Kylian enjoys being here in Paris.
“Every coach wants the best players in his group. Paris not only has the strength to convince but also to show how strong these players are. I have not the slightest doubt that the club will do it.”
The upcoming summer transfer window may be crucial for Mbappe’s future with the club. PSG does not want to come away from the window without having already signed him to a new deal as he would then be playing next season on the final year of his contract.
