Since arriving at Paris Saint-Germain, Kylian Mbappe has emerged as one of the top goal-scoring forwards in the sport today. The French forward has scored plenty of key goals for PSG and has led the side to pivotal wins in all competitions. However, he has had a fair share of struggles in delivering in finals with PSG.
PSG picked up another Trophee des Champions trophy win with its 2-1 victory against Olympique de Marseille. Mbappe started in the fixture and while he was involved in several attacking sequences, he came away from the fixture without a goal.
Mbappe’s notable struggles in finals with PSG are not relatively new. He has played in eight total finals with PSG spanning three different competitions, and in these matches, the forward combined for just one goal, which came in the 2019 Trophee des Champions Final against Stade Rennais.
In Mbappe’s first season at PSG, he played in three different finals, including in the side’s Coupe de France final against Les Herbiers VF. Overall, Mbappe did not score a single goal in any of these fixtures.
Over Mbappe’s next two seasons at PSG, he wound up playing in a combined four finals. As mentioned, he scored against Rennes but failed to notch a goal in pivotal matches such as the 2020 UEFA Champions League Final against Bayern Munich.
Mbappe’s lack of goals in finals is not a major concern, as PSG has come away with a win in six out of the eight finals that the forward has taken part in with the team.
