Former Paris Saint-Germain defender Thiago Silva played under Thomas Tuchel for several seasons, and he is noting that the German’s departure from the club is not one that caught him by surprise.

Tuchel was sacked by PSG over the Christmas break. The decision caught many by surprise as the team was on the heels of a statement 4-0 win over Strasbourg. But PSG’s board ultimately felt it was best to part ways with the German manager.

Overall, Silva had a lingering feeling that the German manager would not last very long with the club. Silva provided his reaction to PSG’s decision to sack Tuchel in speaking to RMC Sport.

“It’s difficult, but it was foreseeable that this was going to happen,” Silva said. “Not now, but being inside, we knew that there were situations that had to be changed.

“In my opinion, Leonardo took the situation in hand; he made his choice. We do not know if it was good, it was not at all for Tuchel and his staff, especially after the match. This change was not expected at this time.”

Mauricio Pochettino now comes in as the new manager of PSG. Silva made mention of the Argentine manager’s previous success with other clubs and believes that this hiring is a keen one for his former team.

“Mauricio Pochettino did a good job with Tottenham, I think he comes very motivated, 20 years after playing for PSG,” Silva said. “He knows the club a little. Of course, that has changed a lot, but he knows the team a lot. He will work with top players.”

The Pochettino era for PSG will begin on Wednesday with an away Ligue 1 fixture against AS Saint-Etienne.
