Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar sent shock waves across the footballing world on Wednesday after comments he made about aiming to reunite with FC Barcelona star Lionel Messi. Neymar was straightforward on his ambition to once again play alongside the Argentine star as soon as next season.
From Barcelona’s side, interim president Carlos Tusquets hit on Neymar’s comments earlier this week by stating that there is currently “no money” to bring back the Brazilian to the Catalan club. This would lead many to speculate that if Neymar can not rejoin Barca, then Messi could then instead come to Neymar at PSG.
Now from PSG’s side, Leonardo, the club’s sporting director, is also giving his input on Neymar’s bombshell declaration. Leonardo did not provide a clear message on whether he has any serious plans to bring these two together again. But he did (via RMC Sport) respond to the comments by essentially moving PSG away from this rumor for now.
“It’s for Argentinian journalists and when you do an interview in Argentina, it’s normal that you talk about Messi,” Leonardo said. “We have to keep respect, he’s a Barcelona player.
“Now is not the time to think about the transfer window, we are very happy with the squad we have. Today, a lot of respect for Messi, for Barcelona, but now is not the time to talk about that.”
Regardless of Leonardo’s comments here, the Messi to PSG rumors will begin to pick up steam over the upcoming months.
