Since Paris Saint-Germain’s very first game this season, Leandro Paredes and his teammates have faced constant outside criticism. The expectations for PSG to compete at a high level in all competitions are always sky-high, but this has not necessarily been the case for the club so far this season. PSG currently has a slim lead in Ligue 1 play and stands at second place in its Champions League group.
This season has been a difficult one for Paredes and his PSG side. But he has no excuses, nor is he placing any blame on anyone for the sluggish start to the campaign. Paredes spoke further to PSG TV on how the team is battling through adversity this season.
“Today there is still this group, this desire to fight for each other, to always be together, to enjoy every moment,” Paredes said. “We haven’t started this season in the best way possible because we’ve had a lot of injuries but the squad is amazing. We all have a good time together, we enjoy and we fight together.”
Paredes is well aware of the criticism that the team has received this season. But the midfielder is not letting it faze his side, as the team is still focused on being a serious contender in all competitions this season. For one, PSG did not have its way in its UEFA Champions League group stage fixture against RB Leipzig. But a win is a win for Paredes.
“We know when we are playing well but we also know when we are not,” Paredes said. “We are the first to know. But we are also aware that we are a smart team that knows how to play to win.
“I think this match had to play like that because they were a very good team physically and we weren’t up to the level to compete on an equal footing in the game and achieve a more intense game. We managed to play the game we needed to win, and that’s the most important thing so we’re happy.”
The season is still early, and there is plenty of time for PSG to turn its season around.
