Video: ‘Yes, We Have to See if It Is Necessary’ – Tuchel Discusses Playing Youth Players Due to PSG’s Injury Problems

Paris Saint-Germain's German coach Thomas Tuchel arrives before the UEFA Champions League group H football match between Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Istanbul Basaksehir FK at the Parc des Princes stadium in Paris, on December 9, 2020. - The group game in Paris, which was goalless at the time, was suspended when both teams left the pitch on December 8, 2020 after a touchline argument erupted when the Romanian fourth official, Sebastian Coltescu, appeared to describe Basaksehir assistant coach Pierre Webo, a former Cameroon international player, as "black", or "negru" in Romanian and will resume on December 9 where it left off, in the 14th minute, with a different set of officials. As Paris Saint-Germain heads into the holiday break, the capital club will have one last fixture as they host RC Strasbourg Alsace at the Parc des Princes. So far, the capital club has ten absences due to injuries.

With several injuries, PSG manager Thomas Tuchel appeared at a press conference and spoke about the possibility of integrating young players because of the multiple absences.

“Yes, we have to see if it is necessary. If they deserve it, we will. Honestly, we have to find solutions, and it is not going to be easy. I will find solutions after the press conference. We have to wait because this season we have had many surprises during the last training sessions.”

The German coach also gave his opinion on the possibility of not finishing first before the break.

“I’m not worried because I’m happy with our last performance. We’re close, a point or two away, and we can always start a winning streak. It’s never easy. The most important thing is that the gap between the teams is not too great. I trust us.”

Finally, Tuchel also spoke about the struggles that Les Parisiens have had in finishing off their scoring chances.

“There is not just one reason. Many players are missing. We lacked precision and rhythm. We are always here to improve. We know very well that it is not easy. We play against teams with a low and disciplined block. It is the most difficult thing in football to play against 10 defenders. For that, we try to make opportunities with the counter-attack to play against a disorganized team.”
