Paris Saint-Germain needed a win over Manchester United FC if the capital club wanted to control their destiny heading into the last matchday of the UEFA Champions League group stage.
Les Parisiens ahead early due to a Neymar Jr. goal but faced adversity when Marcus Rashford tied the score at one. However, instead of crumbling, PSG overcame that speedbump by scoring two straight goals for a 3-1 victory.
Now with three teams tied in Group H with nine points, all PSG needs to do is pick up a win at the Parc des Princes against İstanbul Başakşehir, and they’re through to the knockout stages.
After the match, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi spoke to RMC Sport about his team’s performance, where he mentioned how proud he is of the result.
“Yes, we are proud tonight,” Al-Khelaïfi said. “We show the real PSG, a real team fighting for the Champions League. For us, it was important. It was a decisive match. We had to show that we were always there for the big moments. I am proud of my players. It was difficult; it is a game that everyone wanted to win. I think we created goals. Now we must continue. We are not yet qualified. That is our goal. We also have a Ligue 1 game in Montpellier.”
Al-Khelaïfi then transitioned over and commented on Tuchel’s performance as manager against Manchester United.
“Also Tuchel’s victory? We also played a good game, technically. The players gave their all. It is not easy to win here. We did it twice. It was important to win 3-1 with the quality of the game we showed,” Al-Khelaïfi said.
