As the winter transfer window opens up, the future of FC Barcelona forward Lionel Messi will dominate the headlines as the 33-year-old can agree to a pre-contract for next season with any club.
With Neymar Jr. expressing his desire to play with his former Barcelona teammate, Paris Saint-Germain is an option for the Argentina international and a serious threat considering they can afford to pay his high wages.
However, scenarios of Neymar and Messi playing together all have the La Pulga heading to the French capital. Nonetheless, Diario Sport and Jota Jordi in El Chiringuito have speculated that both players could play with the Spanish club, but in 2022.
The Brazil international’s contract expires after next season, and with no contract extension yet signed, that remains a possibility that Neymar could return to Barcelona on a free transfer.
Nonetheless, Diario Sport also reported last month that Barcelona is in a financial crisis, so it would be hard to see them playing the wages that Neymar would command.
