Report: PSG’s Decision to Contact Pochettino in Early December Signaled the ‘End’ of Tuchel’s Run With the Club

Paris Saint-Germain has reportedly decided to end Thomas Tuchel’s run with the club as the club sacked the manager on Christmas Eve. The German manager was just a day removed from PSG’s key 4-0 home win over Strasbourg, but the side decided to simply end his tenure with the club sooner than many predicted.

This decision from PSG was not made in an instant. Instead, this call was one that PSG had planned for quite a while. ESPN notes that PSG contacted former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino in early December. This call from PSG was reportedly the “end” of Tuchel’s run with the club, as it signaled that the board already had plans to move on from the former Borussia Dortmund manager.

PSG’s call to sack Tuchel was seemingly inevitable. The report adds that Tuchel was no longer one who was deemed to be the “right man for the job.” More so, PSG sporting director Leonardo did not always come to an agreement with Tuchel and did not view him as the right manager to lead the team.

Thus, from Tuchel’s standpoint, this decision from the club was not a surprise to him.

For now, Pochettino will come into the managerial role with high expectations, while Tuchel departs with a grand legacy left at his now-former club.
