Paris Saint-Germain has reportedly made the call to sack Thomas Tuchel while bringing in former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino to take his place. Tuchel had just finished up the first half of the season, but PSG still elected to cut short his tenure with the club.
Pochettino now steps into the role as manager of PSG, but before he agreed to do so, the club assured him of one significant matter. AS reports that PSG made the promise to Pochettino that forward Kylian Mbappe will stay at the club.
Mbappe has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid. The La Liga side has been monitoring Mbappe’s situation with PSG as he is currently slated to be a free agent a year following this season. PSG aspires to sign Mbappe to a contract extension deal but at the moment, the two sides have not yet come to terms on one.
But according to AS, Pochettino is now assured that Mbappe will not be leaving the club. Real Madrid still has plans to push for such a deal, but as the report notes, PSG’s hiring of Pochettino complicates the Spanish side’s potential pursuit.
Still, speculation towards Mbappe’s future with PSG will come to a conclusion when he puts pen to paper on a contract extension deal.
