Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar is set to become a free agent in 2022, which is a situation in which the club does not want to face. PSG is hoping to avoid losing Neymar on a free transfer, and the club’s sporting director in Leonardo is already doing his part by jump-starting contract talks with the Brazilian. However, Neymar has one condition in mind before committing to prolonging his stay with PSG.
PSG has been made aware of Neymar’s intention to sign a contract extension deal if the club is able to sign FC Barcelona star Lionel Messi, according to a report from the Spanish-based outlet Mundo Deportivo.
Neymar recently went public with remarks on his aspiration to soon reunite with Messi. The two were teammates for only four seasons at the Catalan club before Neymar departed for PSG in 2017.
The report notes that since Messi is slated to be out of contract next year, he will be able to negotiate with other clubs for a pre-contract agreement beginning next month. More so, Neymar is set on playing alongside Messi as soon as next season. Thus, next month will be key for PSG as if the club aims at keeping Neymar in the long-term, it will need to haul in Messi in order to fulfill the Brazilian’s reported contract conditions.
