Video: ‘We Lacked Determination in the Second Half’ – Thomas Tuchel Explains PSG’s Performance Against Bordeaux

Over the last two weeks in Ligue 1 competition, Paris Saint-Germain has struggled to produce wins to grab a stranglehold of the table. A week ago, the capital club blew a 2-0 lead to fall 3-2 to AS Monaco. Then in this week’s action, Les Parisiens drew 2-2 despite having a 2-1 lead against FC Girondins de Bordeaux.

After the fixture against Bordeaux, PSG manager Thomas Tuchel spoke with Canal Plus to discuss his squad’s two faces, considering how well they play in the first half, but can’t put away their opponents.

“We cannot play without effort like we did in the second half. The first half was better than the game against Leipzig; we created a lot of chances. We followed the plan. We played fairly simple, disciplined. The first half was good, but we lacked seriousness to finish this match to kill this match,” Tuchel said. “We lacked determination in the second half. In the second half, we lacked discipline, effort, attitude. We didn’t continue to follow the plan, and we lost the second half. It’s worse than in Monaco.”

Tuchel isn’t afraid to stand up for his players but admitted that he wasn’t happy with their performance against Bordeaux.

“In the first half, they did it, but I’m talking about the whole team. We made a first half, okay, but the second half, I don’t agree. I still protect my team, but today, I totally disagree with our effort in the second half. For me, it’s not necessary to do a second performance like that, still losing points. In the second half, we conceded 14 shots, that’s not possible. It is our responsibility. Everyone, even me.
