Video: ‘We Got the Three Points Which Were Important for the Future’ – Marquinhos on the Victory Over RB Leipzig

After Paris Saint-Germain manager had Marquinhos play in the midfield in their defeat at Red Bull Arena to RB Leipzig, the German manager had the Brazil international return to his familiar center-back role.

Marquinhos played in 90 minutes where he had six clearances, three interceptions, one blocked shot, and went four of seven in his ariel duels, stellar numbers for the PSG captain on defense. Once the capital club picked up the 1-0 victory, he spoke with RMC Sport to discuss the match.

“Yes, it’s true. It was an important game, a challenge, and a real test today. We are happy. We are a team. We’re in difficult times. We stick together. We have proven it. We have to keep it for the rest of the competition. The non-existent game background of PSG? Yes, there is also a lot of things that people don’t know about player injuries and pains. We were not at the best level to have an exceptional match,” Marquinhos said.

“The most important thing was the victory, we perhaps did not shine, but we got the three points which were important for the future. The difficult system change with a defense at 5, a difficulty for the team? No, it was better. We had difficulty pressing. We managed to squeeze better. We had more security behind and maybe less effort to move forward with than two forwards. We felt better behind to better defend and secure.”
