Neymar Was Fouled a Season-High 7 Times During PSG’s Champions League Fixture Against RB Leipzig

Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar did what he could during his side’s UEFA Champions League return group stage fixture against RB Leipzig. He had a fair showing against the Bundesliga side as he scored the game-winning goal, created two goal-scoring chances for teammates and completed seven dribble attempts.

However, it was surely frustrating for the Brazilian forward as RB Leipzig’s players fouled him seven times, which is the most that any player has suffered in the Champions League this season.

This is quite a stat as while the Brazilian forward logged 74 touches in the game, Leipzig held possession for 62 percent of the time during the game. So, it seemed as if whenever Neymar had possession and aimed to accelerate upfield for a quick counter-attack sequence, a Leipzig player was there looming and waiting to halt it by committing a tactical foul. But in other instances, Leipzig players simply could not contain his on-ball prowess, so they resorted to fouling for the forward.

While the seven fouls suffered is a season-high for Neymar in the Champions League this season, it is not the most that he has been fouled in a game over the ongoing campaign. The Brazilian forward was fouled eight times during a Ligue 1 fixture against Dijon last month.

Taking into consideration Neymar’s lengthy injury history, it is surely not a positive sign to see him take on such a high amount of fouls during a game.
