Deschamps Remains Uncertain About Mbappe’s Availability for France’s Nations League Fixture Against Portugal

The France national team is set to take on Portugal for a pivotal UEFA Nations League group stage fixture. A win for France will essentially give it Group A3 and a spot in the Nations League knockout stage.

At the moment, Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe is still a doubt to feature in the fixture. He has been dealing with a minor hamstring ailment for over a week now, which is why the forward missed France’s recent international friendly fixture against Finland. Mbappe did return to training on Thursday for a light session and according to France national team manager Didier Deschamps (via Le Parisien), the forward took part in training activities on Friday as well.

“He will do the first part of the training separately, because he is pursuing a specific job,” Deschamps said. “Later we shall see. I will wait for what happens in training today, for him and other players. We will make a point on Saturday morning to see how they are together, before making the decisions for the evening game.”

France has enough quality depth upfront to proceed ahead with the fixture against Portugal. But if Mbappe ends up being ruled out for this contest, other forwards on the team sure will have to step up their play in order to help France clinch a win.
