Verratti Speaks Out on Committing to PSG and Why the Club’s Champions League Final Run Last Season Was Special

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti is currently on international duty with the Italian national team. Italy is set to feature in UEFA Nations League group stage fixtures over the upcoming week as it is aiming to clinch a spot in the knockout stage of the competition.

Verratti took part in a press conference on Friday ahead of the Nations League fixtures. He was asked about Italy’s form as of late but also took the time to talk about a number of topics regarding PSG. He was asked (via TuttoMercatoWeb) about whether he has any desire to leave PSG and play in Serie A. For now, Verratti’s tenure with the club will carry on.

“The thing I like most is playing football and doing it for a team that plays for great goals,” Verratti said. “In these eight years, I have always played with great champions and right now it doesn’t occur to me to leave PSG. I’m very well there and then in the future, we will see.”

Verratti also reflected on the team’s UEFA Champions League final run last season. PSG came close to capturing its first-ever Champions League title but lost in the final to FC Bayern Munich.

“It was a good blow but we made a great path,” Verratti said. “We could have finished with any result, Bayern were good but getting to the final is always a positive thing. We have been trying to get as high as possible for eight years.

“It gives us the strength to try again immediately.”

Verratti and PSG will give it another go in the Champions League beginning later this month when group stage play begins.
