In a last-minute transfer to beef up their depth on central defense, Paris Saint-Germain tried to acquire Arsenal FC’s Sokratis Papastathopoulos, according to Téléfoot’s Saber Desfarges

The request for Sokratis came from manager Thomas Tuchel, who had the defender during his time with Borussia Dortmund. The capital club tried securing the 32-year-old on a free, who doesn’t seem to be in the plans for manager Mikel Arteta, considering the Greece international only made 29 appearances for the Gunners last season.

Nonetheless, the English club denied PSG’s request to acquire Sokratis on a free transfer, despite his contract ending next summer, per Transfermarkt. Arsenal perhaps values the player enough to keep him around for depth rather than working on a buyout or another manner that would allow him to leave for free to Les Parisiens.

With no Sokratis, PSG will have to make do with Thilo Kehrer and Abdou Diallo as their depth behind Marquinhos and Presnel Kimpembe.
