Paris Saint-Germain is officially out of the running in the Luis Suarez sweepstakes. FC Barcelona added a clause in Suarez’s contract buyout agreement prohibiting him from signing with PSG and three other teams, according to a report from Onda Cero‘s Alfredo Martinez.
Barcelona is in the midst of a buyout agreement with Suarez. The Uruguayan forward has one more year left on his contract, but the two sides are nearing a deal that would make him a free agent. In the agreement, Barcelona inserted a clause that would contractually not allow him to sign with four specific teams. PSG is among those four teams on the list, which also include other UEFA Champions League contenders such as Manchester City and Real Madrid.
Out of these three mentioned teams, PSG has been the only side linked with Suarez over the past weeks. According to a late August report from the Spanish-based outlet Sport, PSG was monitoring the situation between Suarez and Barcelona. The French side only had an interest in signing Suarez on a free transfer. Suarez would have been an ideal signing to replace Edinson Cavani, but this move will not be transpiring due to the new clause in Suarez’s buyout agreement.
For the moment, Suarez could be on the move to Atletico Madrid while PSG remains on the lookout for a backup forward.
