Bayer Leverkusen Sporting Director Rudi Voller Responds to Rumors Linking his Club to Draxler

It is looking more and more likely that Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Julian Draxler has already played his final game with the club.

PSG is currently looking to offload the German talent this summer. Draxler has a mere one year left on his contract, and the club seems to prefer to at least gain a fee for the talent rather than lose the midfielder on a free transfer next year.

Bayer Leverkusen is one club that has reportedly shown interest in acquiring Draxler. The club is looking to find players who could help replace the production left by now-former attacking talent Kai Havertz, who departed for Chelsea. Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Voller recently acknowledged (via Sport Buzzer) the rumor linking his club to Draxler but did not outright deny the reports.

“It’s clear how something like this comes about,” Voller said. “He has just played two international matches, has another year contract in Paris, doesn’t play as often as he would like, and the national coach advises him to change clubs.”

Leverkusen is planning on being conservative with how it reinvests the money it accumulated from the Havertz deal. The fact that Draxler has just one year left on his deal could end up being the deciding factor in whether a deal between PSG and Leverkusen comes to fruition.
