Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti will not play against Bundesliga side RB Leipzig in the upcoming UEFA Champions League semifinal tie, according to L’Equipe.
Verratti has been out of action since suffering a calf injury in training over a week ago. The Italian midfielder did not feature against Atalanta in the Champions League quarterfinal bout on Wednesday as a result.
PSG later released a medical update stating that Verratti was rehabbing the injury by taking part in workout activities.
Verratti arrived at training on Saturday but did not take part in Tuchel’s scheduled collective session. Instead, the team’s medical staff conducted tests on him to further evaluate the injury and did some treatment on his calf as well.
Per the report, Verratti will not be ready to go against RB Leipzig on Tuesday. However, club officials are aiming for Verratti to recover in time for the potential Champions League final on August 23 if PSG advances to play in it.
Even if PSG does not advance to the final, Verratti will continue to rehab the calf injury as the new Ligue 1 season is slated to kick off later this month.
