Thiago Silva’s eight-year run with Paris Saint-Germain has come to an end as the 35-year-old signed a one-year contract (with a club option for another 12 months) to join Chelsea FC.
His wife, Isabelle Silva, spoke with Le Parisien, and one of the first comments made in the interview is on the belief of her husband’s career finishing in Paris.
There’s no denying that the Silva’s connected with the French capital and the country itself. It’s probably one of the reasons they became citizens of France last year.
With Les Parisiens only extending Silva’s contract for two more months to conclude the UEFA Champions League, the family knew their time in Paris was coming to an end.
“We are not sad. We never thought that Thiago’s career had to end there. It’s a shame that Paris decided to let him go. But football is like that when you are no longer part of the team’s plans. You have to leave,” Silva said.
“But we are French, and we will always be Parisians. We lived here for eight years. These moments will remain forever etched in our memories. Every day here has been very special, unique, but that doesn’t mean we leave sad.”
O Monstro has made it clear that he wants to play in the 2022 FIFA World Cup for Brazil. It’s why he wanted to remain in Europe despite the interest of clubs back in Brazil. Nonetheless, once the former PSG captain’s career comes to an end, his wife hopes that her family returns to Paris.
“Nothing is impossible. Why not come back one day? When we finish the contract at Chelsea and if he wants to join, as a player, in the staff or in another role,” Silva said. “It is not for me to decide on this kind of thing. We must let time pass, and we will see what will happen when the time comes.”
