‘We’re Going to do Everything We Can to Bring it Home’ — Silva Previews the Coupe de France Final

The Thiago Silva farewell will take its first stop this week as Paris Saint-Germain and AS Saint-Etienne are set to meet in the Coupe de France final.

PSG players are certainly eagerly awaiting the start of the fixture after such a long break since their last official game. For Silva, he will be soaking in each moment of the game as it will be his last fixture in this tournament.

He provided a short preview of the final to the team’s website and spoke about why this cup-deciding contest in particular means much more.

“The Coupe de France is an historic trophy,” Silva said. “It’s even more important this year because the club is celebrating its 50th anniversary. So I think it’s a very important moment to concentrate and give everything for the team, with the aim of celebrating at the end. We’re going to do everything we can to bring it home.”

Following a lengthy drought in competitive action, the team and coaching staff went out of their way to remain focused and prepared once they finally returned to training.

“The staff tried to manage the training load in order to gradually build up the group,” Silva said. “It was important to regain some automatism because that’s what makes us win games.”

While PSG is considered the overwhelming favorite to win the final, Silva is not taking this fixture for granted. He gave insight into his mentality for the game and why Saint-Etienne will not be an effortless challenge.

“It’s good to play against this team,” Silva said. “They have a lot of qualities. Sometimes people think it’s easy to win for Saint-Germain because we’ve got a lot of qualities. But in football, if you don’t work hard, it can be complicated. So you have to prepare yourself mentally and get to a good level.”

Silva surely hopes he can begin his farewell tour with a trophy win.
