Tuchel Says Silva Will Remain Captain For Remainder of Season

Earlier this week, Le Parisien posed an intriguing question on whether Thiago Silva will continue to be the captain for the rest of the season. Silva signed a short contract extension that would keep him with the club until the end of the team’s Champions League run. So possibly, the team could have looked to begin the new era by choosing a team captain as early as the Coupe de France final against AS Saint-Etienne.

Following Paris Saint-Germain’s 7-0 thumping of Belgian side Waasland-Beveren, Tuchel was asked whether Silva will continue to wear the captain’s armband. Without hesitation, the German manager (via RMC Sport) put a halt to the short-lived question.

“If he is on the field, he is captain, it’s clear,” Tuchel said. “Until the last day, he is my captain and that does not change.”

However, Tuchel still has a slight dilemma to handle regarding who will be the starting center-backs. As he mentioned, he has a trio of quality options to go to depending on the formation at hand, including Silva.

“We have Marqui (Marquinhos), Kimp (Kimpembe) and Thiago (Silva) who are at the highest level in Europe,” Tuchel said. “We are very happy that they are with us and if we play with two central defenders, I have to choose. The strongest will play, the three have the same level for me.”

Silva will surely look to make his final games as the team’s captain and leader a memorable one.
