Report: Roma the Front-Runners to Sign PSG’s All-Time Leading Scorer

The rumor of Edinson Cavani to AS Roma continues to get louder. It seems this deal is not a matter of if, but when, according to Olé.

A couple of days ago, news surfaced about the Italian club becoming the favorite to land El Matador. With Edin Džeko’s contract expiring at the end of the season, reports are linking him to Inter Milan and Juventus FC. As a result, Roma needs a new striker.

The Argentine newspaper is the latest to report that all roads lead to Cavani joining Roma for next season. Furthermore, it’s a league that the Uruguay international knows from his time with Napoli and it suits him as an aging striker—Džeko, who at 34-years-old, has scored 17 goals so far this season.

On the financial side, Diario AS reported that Roma is offering Cavani a three-year deal and plans to make PSG’s all-time leading scorer their highest-paid player.

When looking at the big picture, it’s a move that makes sense. Cavani will play in a country that he’s familiar with and a top league in Europe to keep him in form for the 2022 FIFA World Cup where he hopes to make the Uruguay national team. As the rumor becomes louder, PSG supporters could be seeing a club legend in yellow and red next season.
