Report: PSG Will Be Patient In Contract Extension Negotiations With Neymar

Paris Saint-Germain is interested in jump-starting serious contract extension negotiations with Neymar and has decided to be patient in the process, according to Le Parisien.

Neymar is currently under contract up until 2022. Rather than seeking to maximize his current transfer value by selling him before his contract expires, PSG aspires to extend his current deal. Per the report, Neymar’s representatives had reached out to PSG in hopes of gradually entering discussions for a deal. PSG is intrigued, but both sides have agreed to halt any such discussions and wait until the conclusion of the UEFA Champions League knockout stage next month.

The report mentions a possible target of September or October in which both sides would like to enter into such talks.

The Le Parisien report also touched on Neymar’s current mindset and feelings towards two key figures within the club. His relationship with Thomas Tuchel is reported to be closer than that of teammate Kylian Mbappe. Neymar also has a current normalized standing with Leonardo, PSG’s sporting director.

PSG hopes that this will continue to be the case heading into the inevitable contract extension talks. If the club is able to pull off a Champions League win, it would only help the cause in convincing Neymar to end any interest in leaving for another club and rather commit to a long-term deal.
