Paris Saint-Germain will play in two domestic cup final matches over the next couple of weeks against AS Saint-Étienne and Olympique Lyonnais.
Despite playing in those meaningful matches to close out the month of July, there’s still a two-week gap between the Coupe de la Ligue final and PSG’s UEFA Champions League quarter-final matchup against Atalanta, which is scheduled to be played on August 12.
As a result, the capital club is looking to book one last friendly before heading to Lisbon, Portugal, according to Le Parisien. The French media outlet reports that a friendly against a Ligue 2 club on August 5, makes the most sense for PSG.
Squeezing in one last friendly before facing Atalanta is a smart decision. It allows the squad to get their legs back and running instead of having two weeks off and heading into a knockout-style tournament, where one game decides everything.
If PSG can advance past Atalanta, they’ll face the winner of Atlético Madrid and RB Leipzig. This might be the best chance for the club to reach its first Champions League final in club history.
