Report: Neymar Still Pondering A Return to Barcelona

The Neymar to FC Barcelona rumors just never seem to come to a halt.

According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, Neymar desires a return to Barcelona. Paris Saint-Germain is on its heels over Neymar’s reported hope to leave the club. Board officials are responding by assessing his future.

As the report continues, talks over a possible contract extension between Neymar and PSG board officials have stalled. This is placing an ultimatum on Neymar, where the club would then prefer to sell the Brazilian by next summer to at the least garner a return from his relatively high transfer value before his contract expires in 2022.

The report concludes by mentioning Neymar’s regular contact with some of his former teammates back in Barcelona and how they would welcome him back with open arms. This is far from a surprise considering some of the recent public comments made by players like Lionel Messi. In February, the Argentine noted that Neymar is “excited” about one day making his return to the Catalan club.

At the moment, the shutdown of football over the past months has left clubs seeking drastic measures to become conservative with funds. Barcelona club president Josep Bartomeu noted to RAC1 (via AS) that the likelihood of a deal for a high-priced star like Neymar is low because of the current uncertain financial situation in Europe.

“Such an operation is unlikely because the situation of all the clubs in Europe is very difficult,” Bartomeu said.

For now, such a deal is highly unlikely to come to fruition. But with the unpredictable transfer market, never say never.
