Former Real Madrid star Luís Figo spoke with Diario AS, where he reflected on his controversial transfer when he departed FC Barcelona to Real Madrid 20 years ago.
Most of the interview focused on Figo and the record transfer fee that led to him joining Los Blancos. However, the Spanish media cannot help themselves when they can bring up either Neymar Jr. or Kylian Mbappé.
In this case, AS asked Figo about the link between Real Madrid and the 21-year-old star for Paris Saint-Germain. The comment may come as a surprise, but Figo is skeptical about Mbappé joining his former club.
“He is one of the best in the world, he has a lot of talent and a lot of room for improvement, but of course, he is in a very strong financial team,” said Figo. “I don’t know if it will be possible to see him wear white.”
The Portugal international has a point, PSG is a club that’s well off financially. The decision to play for Real Madrid will come onto the hands of Mbappé since the majority of football’s superstars have suited up for Barca and Real Madrid at some point in their career.
It will be up to Mbappé if he wants to continue that trend or forgo it and continue to build something special in his hometown of Paris.
